OVERALL EXPERIENCE

Being a summer scholar has really got me into thing about college and understanding college process even more. This experience has been a great one for me. Geting to know and build a nextwork with 38 students has been a great fun we basically bounded and connected we have known each other for along time. The team builing obstacle coarses held us build trust for each other.
As a college student now I have learnt and aquired the skills and technics to how to succeed in college through this program. This program had opened and answered all my worries about college.
College 101. This class is bassed on the foundamentals of college process and how to suceed in college and this class has been helpful to me. Questions about addmission processe, finincial aid and scholarships and other helpful topics involving college work was covered in this class which was helpfull.
I encourage up and coming high schools juniro's to apply for this program because it gives you all the information you need for college while you get to network with college students, facuilty and peers in this program and always remember its a scholarship and that there are requirments one has to meet and alot is expected form you to do you best at all events.
By far I would say summer scholars class of 2008 is the best group ever. Good job Guys we did it, its over what is left of us now is to keep the network going and be there to help each other where ever life takes us.
Special thank to all the facuilty of the muticultural office for giving us this oppourtunity and experience.

I first of all want to give a big thanks to Lina and the entire summer scholars stuff for incorporating the career shadowing part of this program its one way for us student to really get the taste of real life.I had a great time with me professional person at the court house downtown, Mrs. Nissa Jones was her name she is a state Attorney . she was a really nice lady. We spent about 20mins to get to know each other then she went over the work she does, what her clients expect from him which in this case is the State. She then took me took time of her schedule to take me on a tour to various offices in the building and what goes on in various departments in the court house. I also had a chance to sit in the court room while court was in seasion.
The first one was about this man and woman once couples and from what I understood from hearings was that the girl was filing for the man to not contact her again. They both took turns to make their case and what they said made no sence to me or the judge. At the end the judge dismised the case and told them they were two immature kids and that they should grow up and workout their differences.
In two other cases both the corporate plead guilty to their charges on stoled a car and plead guilty and plead to pay $500. The other one plead guilty for driving in a car with pocession of cocaine and was sentence to drug court. I really had fun and learnt a lot form this experience.

STATEMENT

My achievements so far in life is not just physical awards or medals but doing the right thing to help others is what I call achievements. My biggest achievement would be making it this far in my high school education am now a senior and all those who thought I would drop out or get a girl pregnant then drop out or get involved in drugs and all that temporal good stuff and get in trouble with the law and I proved them wrong. Other achievements include my music talent, I am the greatest trumpet player at Omaha North High, I have grown to play different genres of music and also the section leader. I am currently on the national honor role, member of the Who is who all American high school students, the 100 Black Men of Omaha’s chapter in my school. I will be leaving to American University in about two weeks for a conference on Intelligence and National Security held by the National Students leadership Council in D.C.
I have also earned varsity letters in Boys Soccer twice in a role and this year my biggest achievement is getting in to the summer scholars program at UNO.

ISSUES THAT MATTER TO ME THE MOST
Even in our civilized world today there are many issues going on and the one that matters to me the most is abuse to women and children. Most cases are keep secret due to threats form the abuser to take their life or may due to the financial support of the abuser there is no choice but to keep it secret. I have this friend in school that goes through this everyday with her mother always being abused by his dad and she has grown this form of hate for all guys. This is a big issue that people face in the world and even in my local area and I think something should be done about it if not after my education I will set up an institution that would deal with these cases.

MOST INFLUENCIAL IN MY LIFE
I have been blessed with great people in my life that has influenced in one way or the other but the most influential person in my life is my uncle, a high court judge in Ghana, I lived with him for about 10years when my dad come to the united states with my brother. The most traits he has that I admire and adopted are his friendship, honesty, respect and hardworking. He has not only shaped me and taught me the way to live a good life but also helped me to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. As a high court judge I went to work with him a few times and looked at what he does and I decided to pursue a career in law enforcement the F B I to be exact.

GOING TO COLLEGE
Attending a university or college is a great opportunity for me to explore my abilities and acquired more knowledge to achieve my goals in life which is to join the federal security agency. Going to college will not only lead me in to accomplishing my goal but also it will enable me to help other people feel save in this country or were ever my job will take me. Knowledge is power

- Well the most encouraging and motivating to me was my team mates/ my new friends because we all encouraged each other during the team building activity at NOLOM we barely knew each other but we had each others back anyway.

- The most challenging over the course of our week stay on campus was making sure I know each and everyone in this program and try not to say or do something that would hurt someone’s feels and I think I did I good job of know where my boundaries or and know what to say at the right time and I thing this was a challenging to me

-
I didn’t really learn about myself but I got to learn about other cool people in the Omaha community, I learnt to respect the views and opinions of others on different issues. If there is something I learnt about myself it would be that I never would have imagined I would make lifetime friends in a short period of this as five day.

- The team building activity really taught me how to work as team, some of the challenges or courses I thought I wouldn’t have done it without the help of ma team mates.
